Announcement No. 2 on the 9th Shanghai International Youth Science and Technology Expo 2022 (Online)and "Science & Technology Stars of Tomorrow" Invitational Tournament

Date of Issuance: August 2, 2022

 

The 9th Shanghai International Youth Science and Technology Expo 2022 (Online) and "Science & Technology Stars of Tomorrow" Invitational Tournament will be held in Shanghai in August 2022. As the important part of this expo, "Science & Technology Stars of Tomorrow" Invitational Tournament will be held concurrently.

A.   Theme

The theme of this invitational tournament is Carbon-Free Journey. Students will design and build a set of devices that allows an egg to use its own kinetic and potential energy to complete a challenging journey. This tournament means that under the goal of "Carbon Neutrality and Carbon Peak", it advocates people to practice green, environmentally friendly and low-carbon lifestyles.

B.   Contestants

Middle and high school students from various countries (regions) who have obtained the qualification to present their works on the 9th Shanghai International Youth Science and Technology Expo 2022, and representatives of outstanding middle or high school students from various countries (regions) invited by the organizing committee will participate as a team of 2 or 3. Individual students participating in the expo could be recommended by their school to form a team of 1 to 2.

Mid-to-late August 2022 (detail is to be announced)

D.   Format

Real-time Online Competition through internet platform.

E.   Registration

Students may log in to the official website of the expo: https://qingbohui.secsa.cn/ to register from now on. (Registered students can log in directly to their account to register; invited student representatives may register after creating account on homepage first). Deadline for registration is August 12, 2022.

F.    Tournament Challenge Summary

Teams will make a set of devices that make Egg "travel" from Departure Area to Arrival Area within 3 hours. During the “travel”, Egg needs to cross a bridge, go through a door, and raise a flag. After completing these three tasks, Egg would return to Arrival Area without any damage. Refer to Appendix 1 for Challenge Plan.

G.   Other Issues

Materials need to be prepared by teams in advance for the tournament. Refer to Appendix 1 for material list. Details of tournament arrangement (i.e., time, internet platform, etc.) will be notified by email soon; if having any relevant questions, please contact Organizing Committee Office.
